SWFL Enterprise Center Pre-Construction Readiness Training Program Graduates 17 Students

Last evening, the Southwest Florida Enterprise Center graduated seventeen students from their initial Pre-Construction Readiness Training Program into the workforce.  A number of additional students are still completing their course work and will graduate soon.  Seven of the graduates have been certified so far by CareerSource Southwest Florida for training fund grants for their future employers.

Five construction companies made presentations at graduation to the students about employment opportunities at their company as they competed to hire the graduates.  Graduates were encouraged to sign up for employment opportunities at each of the five companies.  CareerSource will also be working to place program graduates into jobs.  It is expected that all graduates will soon be employed and working in the construction industry.

The Southwest Florida Enterprise Center will start their next session of the training program next week.  The Preconstruction Readiness Training Program is a 52 hour 6 week training course designed to help individuals begin a career in the construction industry. An Update on the MLK Corridor Reentry Scholarship Program

Today we had the good fortune to meet with the staff at the Fort Myers Technical College to discuss awarding scholarship funds for the Empowerment Works MLK Corridor Reentry Technical Scholarship Program.

We received a lot of good feedback from the staff as we work towards awarding scholarships at Fort Myers Technical College to those who who live in the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Corridor in Fort Myers and are reentering society from the justice system.

We firmly believe that we can make a difference in our community and in the lives of these individuals by helping them find a career path that enables them to reenter society as productive members with a new career.  Finding a job that pays a living wage empowers those who are trying to change their circumstances to become productive members of our community and to avoid the high rates of recidivism that can hold them back from achieving their dreams.  The Fort Myers Technical College has a tremendous track record of providing the skills that empower individuals to achieve new careers.

We were especially pleased to hear statistics that about 80% of those who enter the technical college complete their training and about 80% of those who complete get a job in their field when they graduate.  That is a remarkable record especially when you consider that most career training programs only take a year to complete.

We thank those that contributed to our scholarship fundraising and want to let you know that we will be releasing funds to help change lives soon.  We are grateful for helping us to bring change to our community.
