Empowerment Works is volunteer run 501(c)(3) not for profit charitable organization formed in 2012 to promote entrepreneurship and careers. The organizers believe those in need can be most effectively helped by assisting them to be self sufficient. The IRS has recognized Empowerment Works as a tax exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Donations to Empowerment Works, Inc are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Empowerment Works has partnered with the SWFL Enterprise Center on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Fort Myers. The SWFL Enterprise Center was formed by The City of Fort Myers as a business incubator dedicated to assisting start up or early stage businesses to succeed.
Empowerment Works promotes self sufficiency through career training or internship opportunities. For many individuals, greater career opportunities are afforded by starting a business. Empowerment Works assists individuals to become entrepreneurs to start and run their own businesses.
Karen Reed, RN
Karen Reed, one of the initial organizers of Empowerment Works, has worked locally for the past 31 years as a Registered Nurse licensed in Florida. Currently she volunteers at Empowerment Works as a director and as a faith community nurse in her church, as well as working part time as a cardiac nurse for the local hospital system.
John Reed, CPA
John Reed, also an initial organizer of Empowerment Works, is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Florida. John recently retired as a Principal in a large national CPA firm after a career serving businesses and their owners. John volunteers at Empowerment Works as a director and uses his experience to mentor individuals in their career path and help them develop and run their own businesses.
Thomas Reed, web developer of Employment Works is son of Karen and John. A senior at Florida Gulf Coast University whose major is in Computer Information Systems and a cook at Germain Arena, currently develops websites and is looking to develop his career further in information Technology.
